Just to post some geek outness. I recently ordered a sexy statue of my 2nd favorite comic book, The Walking Dead. It’s limited to 1000 pieces, and I ordered it directly from the studio website. I figured I’d get a decently low number, probably the lower hundreds… but hot damn, I did NOT expect this.

Twenty!

Now, if you don’t know what that little number means, that is the number it was off the production line. So mine was only the 20th made (technically 21st, but 20th for retail). Collectors tend to want lower numbered ones more than higher ones. This is fucking snazzy.

So, that came on Thursday, which was awesome because on the same day my new Cannibal Holocaust and Silent Night, Deadly Night shirts came. So it was a day full of awesomeness in the mail! Then today I was able to snag the oh-so-sexy Cloverfield steelbook DVD at the local Sam Goody. Sometimes I love living in a backwoods hick area full of morons who don’t look past Wal-Mart for anything.

And for some reason, I’m getting up at 7:30 AM to hit up a huge rummage sale nearby. This will suck since I won’t get to sleep until about 5AM. Humbug.

And I wore the Cannibal Holocaust t-shirt today… It’s amazing how many reactions you get simply by wearing a t-shirt with an impaled nude woman on it.

Quick funny little thing I got to see when I was on my way home from class on Monday.

So, I’m driving down this little road through town, on my way home, and I notice a car kind of creeping along, with the four way lights on. I get a little closer and notice a guy walking along the side of the road, with a bag full of stuff. I get even closer, and I notice the guy is incredibly pissed/sad and staring forward as he walks, with (what appeared to be) his girlfriend driving and leaning over trying to talk to him, it appeared she was trying to apologize and get him to get in the car.

I really wanted to just creep past and listen in on the conversation while eating some popcorn. It was such a stereotypical movie/TV moment. I love when that kinda stuff happens!

MosaicThis sunday, when my dad was here, we went out to see the flower mosaics. I saw one earlier near our apartment and there’s supposed to be signs that’ll point you toward the next ones but they were nowhere to be found. We did pass a few of ‘m but couldn’t find the rest so we decided to walk toward the forest instead. It’s right on the edge of town so it’s not a big walk. Just getting there was already quite a hike for my dad though, he’s not used to walking anymore unless it’s in the supermarket.

horsieOnce in the forest Ellen suggested we’d go to the small petting zoo they have near it, which was just over a small hill. I had my camera on me since we were gona go take pictures of the mosaics so I took some pics of the animals there. It really was a small place though, so there wasn’t a lot to see. They did have a horsie there that some of the other animals seem to be sacred off, I think maybe he kicked one or two of ‘m.

We still had to do the walk back, and dad had some problems with a blister on his foot so he told us that next time he wants to go to a place that has more benches.

I meant to write a post back in oh… February, I moved into a lovely little apartment.
I enjoy the neighbor hood, the people (lack there of really), and the view.
However some things have happened. I might be moving again, really life is up in the air right now. So…
until things become a little less frantic I’ve decided to hold off on posting.
That is all for now.

Ever notice how all the trailers before theatrical movies say “This preview approved for all audiences” or something along those lines? I’ve been wondering for a while now why they never show red band(r-rated) trailers in front of r-rated movies. I started thinking about this a while ago when a friend showed me the restricted trailer for AvP2, and it was obviously made by the studio. Studios make these trailers, yet they don’t seem to ever be put in front of other movies and are only released online.

WHY? If a film is already rated R, why don’t they show these types of trailers? I can see why they wouldn’t in front of a PG rated movie, but you’d assume that the audience who goes to see an R-rated film should be able to handle an R-rated trailer. Damn it, I want these trailers in front of my R-rated films! The studios are obviously making them, and you’re not gonna see a trailer for a film like Saw in front of a Disney film anyways. So just put out the damn red band trailer! Unless they DO ship these out, and the local theaters here just don’t have the balls to show them. I dunno, if anyone does see these trailers before films, let me know that I’m totally wrong in my rant and should be focused more at bitching out my local theaters.

Just for reference, here are red band trailers for The Ruins and Clerks 2.

THE RUINS

CLERKS 2

And BTW, I don’t even know why that trailer for The Ruins was red banded, as it doesn’t seem any worse than the normal trailer.

So, a few days ago I was browsing my favorite site to get my video gaming news, and I came across this article about a poll that Whattheyplay.com had done asking what parents found the most offensive. The results?

poll

Now, if you click to the link to the article, you can read all sorts of amazed comments about the stupidity of the American parent these days. I kind of agree, but I don’t think the reaction to things like sex and gay kissing is so much because parents really think violence is better. I may just be playing Devil’s Advocate here, but has anyone thought of how difficult it must be to talk to a child when they see something intimate, as opposed to something violent? It’s much easier to explain to a kid that violence is just flat out wrong. You don’t have to toe any line, and can easily just say “Don’t do that, that’s a very bad thing!” Sex is something quite different. You don’t want to tell a 9 year old that sex is wrong, because you risk fucking them up as they get older. When we’re growing up, we tend to latch onto those little things our parents say. This is the same for gay kissing. I’m sure it’s incredibly difficult to explain homosexuality/heterosexuality to a kid that young.

On top of the difficulty in explaining these things to a child, I’m sure parents are also simply afraid of the kids acting out what they see. A kid will need to actually have access to a firearm or chainsaw to reenact their favorite scenes from Army of Darkness, or Halo, but with sex they already gots the parts to make it work. And we all know parents don’t want to think about their little innocent child experimenting with that kind of stuff.

I was completely WTFing the results right after I saw them, but after thinking for a few days, I kind of understand why parents MIGHT have answered that way… On that note, I’m sure most parents don’t actually think about it like this, and are just completely moronic jackasses. :D

Personally, I think everything should be embraced equally. Give me hardcore porn full of zombies eating aborted baby fetuses. Sexy.

Cheers!

As we all know, the fake guitar playing masses have turned the Guitar Hero games, and to a lesser extent Rock Band into a massive cultural phenomenon. You go on YouTube and you find videos of some of the biggest idiots you’ll ever see. Well, I think I had an experience with one of these idiots.

If you don’t know, I usually work a day on the weekend at a local shop, and one of the things sold there is used video games. Before we put the games/consoles/accessories out for sale, we play test them to make sure everything is in working order. And yesterday a Guitar Hero guitar came in, and before the people trading it in left, the owner had me test it out on a copy of Guitar Hero, to make sure it was in working order.

I hooked up the guitar, and put in the game, and the guy trading it in asked if we wanted him to “jam out” some for us. We turned him down, and I started playing a bit, testing out all the buttons and the whammy bar. So, as I’m playing “I Wanna Be Sedated,” I’m turned towards the TV, and the other people are on the other side of the counter, behind me. Apparently as I was playing, the guy who wanted to test the guitar for us was lip syncing to the song, and air playing the game along with me. Really hardcore going after it too with the finger movements. He even threw in some whammy bar movements.

I didn’t see this, but was told after the fact. I really wish one of the security cameras was positioned in a way to tape it. I would totally have a copy to upload for my loyal 8 readers if one was.

Damn lazy air Guitar Hero players! Learn to play REAL air guitar!

Wow!! It’s been forever since i’ve posted!!! Well I’ll try to get to the updates as I can but it’ll be in a few post heh since SO MUCH has happened!!!

Ellen is doing better in school, (almost) fluent in dutch, not that she ever uses it lol. She has her first boyfriend here, a nice boy (so far but hes pushing it) also new to the Netherlands as an Iraq refuge here with his family. She had her first school dance! Also her first valentines dance with a boy (awwwwww).

I , on the other hand, am still not learning dutch so fast, tho I attribute this to limited exposure (and I never have to use it) and the paralising fear of having to speak a foreign lauange in front of someone else! … stupid hu.. since it’s a language…. WELLLLL!!! that’s about to change since TADA!!! Akasha has her first JOB ever here in Holland !!! Weeeeeee I get to start friday and for now i’ll work evenings, not ideal but wOOt for paying bills. It also mean I get to do something else I’ve wanted to do here…. go to school.. Which I did! I signed up for a new career course, 28 months that includes a general education diploma and a higher education diploma YAY … I kan haz a reel job!!!! It’s a medical course and the course that I took in america will compliment this one.

The bad part about this job is that i has to work on pizza night for the family Booo… no pizza for me for a while /cry … but again wOOt for paying bills …

OK i have tons more to write and a billion pics to post (gotta get dmet to show me how lol) but for now it’s time for me to log and go do other stuffs..

I’ll try and keep up post more regularly but i’m not making promises since i’ll be working, learning dutch and learning this other course plus my regular life, lol i might be kinda busy ^_^

So, tonight I went to see The Ruins at the ol’ theater, and I went to RottenTomatoes.com beforehand to see what those crazy critics were saying. When I did this, I saw several complaints about horrible dialog and completely unlikable characters.

I walked out of the movie wondering what the fuck those critics were talking about. Then I realized I’ve read these complaints about quite a few recent movies that revolve around a group of people in their early to mid 20’s, generally horror films. A couple examples that come off the top of my head are Cloverfield and the Hostel films, none of which did I feel this same way. The dialog, while maybe not ultra intelligent, felt natural, and seemed like things that people in those situations would say. The characters, while not unnaturally likable, seemed like real people.

Now, I myself am 22, and I’m wondering if it only seems normal to me, because I’m around these type of people, and if we 20 somethings are really considered that fucking annoying. Or do people really just want unnatural dialog that no human being on earth would say, unless they’re on camera? This is something that is seriously annoying me, because I myself am incredibly picky with dialog. I watch films, and TV shows, and in my mind I find myself reciting what the actors are saying, but in a revised form, and I do the same while reading comics, but I’m mentally slashing lines out of word balloons are are incredibly unnecessary.

People need to learn to embrace the art of implication, rather than make their damn characters constantly repeat themselves, or state the obvious at every fucking instance. Well, actually, I guess people would need to stop being dumbasses who don’t need every thought spoon fed to them for this to become acceptable. And pretentious assholes who think dialog is better when not a single character uses contractions in their speech need to take a nice leap off a bridge. I applaud the writers who are willing to make their characters natural and slightly unlikable, rather than make them so likable that they’re damn irritating.

By typical standards of “good” dialog, the Star Wars prequels should have been considered a perfect replication of Shakespeare.
