The Number 23 is another “serious role” for Jim Carrey, and I must say that this man is incredible. This short-but-sweet thriller lacks a well-developed plot, but makes up for it with incredible acting and directing. The somewhat-predictable plot-twist ending brings the film’s quality down a bit, but it is still a good finish for the film. What keeps this movie’s quality on the good side is the fast-paced but easy to follow plot and character developments, which helps keep the audience interested in the movie.

A must-see for Jim Carrey fans, but otherwise mediocre movie. I give this film a 6.0/10.

Nomad (The Warrior) is made using a simple formula: 10% Gladiator, 10% The Last Samurai, and 80% filler. Mansur, the prophesied Warrior from Kazakhstan that is destined to unite his people against their oppressors, had a good run in this movie, but the parts without him fighting and such lacked content to hold the audience’s attention. The story itself was interesting, but it was not portrayed in a very entertaining manner.

This film has its moments, but save the action sequences, the movie needed a lot of help. Spikes of entertainment were not enough to make this into a good movie, so I rate it a 4.5/10.

Zodiac is based on the true story of the Zodiac Killer, whose murders mystified the public and authorities for decades, and is still a mystery to this day. At just over 2.5 hours, this movie is a real stretch to endure. It could have easily been cut to under 2 hours, and even then I’m giving it a lot of credit. The mystery itself is intriguing, but only if you like watching guys talk to each other in a bunch of different places throughout the movie. It was a real snoozefest, with little suspense and even less action.

This film gets a disappointing 3.5/10.

Night At The Museum is a pretty good movie for Ben Stiller. The film has more than it’s fair share of laughs, but the silly and predictable slap-stick humor was almost too much in a couple of scenes. Otherwise, I would place this slightly above Meet The Parents and Meet The Fockers as far as comedy quality goes. The light-hearted humor is targeted for the slightly younger crowd, but it’s a fun movie for all ages.

I give it a 6.5/10

Apocalypto was an alright movie. Mel Gibson just hasn’t found that magical formula quite yet. The concept was original and fresh, but it just didn’t peak my interest as much as it should have. It was a good try, though. These types of movies are getting better, as they are slowly pulling away from Hollywood and becoming true films again. I’m happy Mel Gibson is willing to go beyond Hollywood, but I don’t think he’s the man that’s going to make that breach into spectacular non-Hollywood-feeling movies.

I give this film a 5.5/10.

Reno 911!: Miami is a comical film very akin to its TV counterpart. While maintaining the same level of comedic goodness, the movie feels like a stretched-out episode. While the portrayal of the humor was brought to a new level for the film, it was not enough to bring the actual movie itself up a level from the styling of the TV show.

If you’re looking for an extended episode of Reno 911!, then this is the movie for you. However, the step-up to movie-dom was too small to make this a great film, and so I must rate it a 6.0/10.

Letters From Iwo Jima reveals the Japanese perspective on the closing days of World War II, as seen through the eyes of those defending Iwo Jima against the advancing U.S. forces. Clint Eastwood did a magnificent job directing this film, and all the more power to him for making it great. The emotional and exciting film will have you choking back tears and rooting for the Japanese. As one finally sees that they were not savages and insane kamikaze barbarians (although a few were), one cannot help but feel sorry for the loss endured by those who were once our enemies.

Letters From Iwo Jima earns itself an 8.0/10.

Shooter is an amazing movie about a former U.S. sniper who is double-crossed by the government, and he must fight for his life (and freedom). It has a The Bourne Identity feel to it, which is both good and bad. Good because I enjoyed The Bourne Identity, bad because it’s too alike The Bourne Identity. Throw Matt Damon in Mark Wahlberg’s place, and you got another Bourne movie (speaking of which, The Bourne Ultimatum is coming out soon).

Except for the Hollywood-rehash, Shooter is a good movie. It gets a 7.0/10 in my book.

More then meets the eyes bitches
4 out of 5 (maybe a 3.5 out of 5 but still good)

Yeah I enjoyed it. I did watch transformers growing up, but this isn’t that transformers so you fan boys out there can shut up for two minutes.

Visually, expect for some minor light issues between cg holding non cg (which most of the time wasn’t bad), this movie was shiny.
I’ll admit every now and then a scene would cut to another scene and it would feel weird. Not that it looked weird but seemed weird. Most Michael Bay movies fell that way tho. (also hot sweaty Megan Fox)
The script was rather funny and important plot points of the transformer universe were still there.
This is a decent action popcorn film and still not over baring enough that you can’t take your children to it. (that’s of course your call not mine) I do however wish certain characters had more to say, BUT once again this is not my transformers and some things will be different. Like Megatron not being a gun, which he hasn’t been for sometime now. Yes yes some of them were the wrong type of car or play play get over it they’ve been others things or other models of said things before. Really this is all to sell toys that how it started, when the times change the toys change and so must the characters the represent them.
Your a grown up now, this is someone else’s childhood, it’s their turn now and it’s gonna be different because THEIR different.
Anyway back to the movie. I know it was a decent length but it felt short. (just like most of my reviews feel) I will also admit that I might have enjoyed it more than some will because -
1. I knew that this was a new interpretation of them and was open to it.
2. Did not have to pay because it had been out long enough to use our free tickets.
3. I saw it with friends and not by myself.

On a side note my male roomie is an avid fan of transformers and he STILL enjoyed this movie.
So really just open your skull little.

Thats probably all I have to say. Peace

(husbands review)
B-
Good, but not great.

I did not watch the Transformers TV show when I was a kid, as I was still too young for it. The most that I have is that I have seen some of the newer show on Cartoon Network a few years past, and I have seen the original movie once. However, it was still good on both worlds.

I am aware that Michael “Pearl Harbor Sucked” Bay can ruin anything, and I realize that he wanted to make this a recreation of the G1 series. With that, he still managed to modernize it too much, and it took away from the overall movie. If this movie would have been a live action recreation of the campy series of old, it would have been cool. If it would have been completely modern and changed most everything, then it would have been cool. However, they combined the two to make a 2 ½ hour save the world movie. It felt like I was watching “Armageddon” meets Final Fantasy VII meets “Jarhead”. It was all too easy. It was still really great to see some of the action scenes, and there were some comedic moments that still made me laugh, and some that made me cry a little, like the “subtle” insertion of “more then meets the eye” into the movie. Overall, it would have made a nice summer movie if it would not have been Transformers, just like “Resident Evil” would have been great had it not been based on the game with its namesake.

Now, for the guy portion of the review. The woman in this movie, Megan Fox, is SMOKIN hot. I am allowed to say that, because I don’t care what anyone else thinks of me. As a 21 year old woman, she has way too much to offer then doing Michael Bay films. That just had to be said.

Overall, it was given a B- by me. That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
